Mision de Cortes is a 600-hectares resort development located on the sea of Cortes in Baja California Sur, just north of the retirement community Los Barriles. Master planned from inception by Virage Architecture Group, the project proposes two 9-hole golf courses, a 250-boat marina, hotel, beach club, residential condominiums and individual custom house lots within private guarded communities. Commercial zones are also projected along the highway.
Virage was responsible for meeting with local and state government entities and acquiring all required land use and construction permits.
The urban structures, landscaping and hardscaping design proposed by Virage uses regional native low-water consuming plants, curved garden walls and local materials to create an organic setting within the desert environment.
Candelilla is the first residential phase of Mision de Cortes, consisting of 63 single-family lots of approximately 20,441 sq ft, gated and guarded, all with ocean views and a community club house. Virage is also responsible for composing the architectural guidelines which will enable the development to establish consistency and recommending use of local materials to maintain a regional architectural style.
